▪ Kalo Boxes ▪

 

Kalo made several different kinds of boxes and covered containers, to store jewelry, cigarettes and cigars, face power, pills, stamps, and desk items.  The kind seen most often is like the one to the left, rectangular, with a flat or slightly domed overlapping hinged lid, and lined with cedar wood if it's for tobacco products.  

 

These boxes were often put to considerable use.  After years of daily opening and closing, and contact with oily human hands and the natural muck of the contents and the environment, they frequently became encrusted with a blotchy veneer.  While we like to keep most Kalo holloware polished and glistening, we chose to leave these items with their original patina.

Kalo urn, covered, small, oval, with jade finial.

Urn, covered, small, oval, with jade finial.  Wide mouth tapering to small stem on oval stepped foot, with pattern of three outward-pointing flutes repeated four times around the sides and in a matching arrangement on the removable cover.  Applied wire around top of urn and bottom of cover.  Cover has small square key on bottom of rim that fits into notch in rim of urn.
